“The great thing about getting older is you don’t lose all the other ages you’ve been”

~ Madeleine L’Engle

WHAT IS A LIFE COACH?
A life coach works with individuals
to identify and address challenges and opportunities in their life from an unbiased point of view. Issues can concern relationships, career, family, or anything else that’s hindering the person’s quality of life.

WHAT ISN’T A LIFE COACH?
A life coach is not a Mental Health Professional, Therapist, Psychologist, Social Worker, Mentor or Consultant. A life coach cannot bill their services to health insurance companies.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION?
The first session is a complimentary meet and greet.
The client might bring a topic or questions to explore. Nothing is off limits. Both the client and coach will be observing if they have a good rapport. A good fit is important!

WHAT ARE COACHING ETHICS?
Before the coaching begins, the coach has a responsibility to make sure the client has a full understanding of how their interaction will work. There should be full transparency!

The fee structure should be explained and agreed to. The client should know that the strictest standards of confidentiality will be upheld, as well as when this confidentiality might not be upheld. The client should understand what kind of records will be kept, and their wishes regarding record keeping should be respected. The core ethical values of coaching are:

> RESPECT
> EXCELLENCE
> INTEGRITY
> COLLABORATION

CAN I TERMINATE MY COACHING AGREEMENT?
Yes, at any time.

Questions

WHAT DO I LOOK FOR IN A LIFE COACH?
There’s no one answer to what makes a good coach — only what’s a good coach for you. Here are the four most important ways to determine if your coach is a good fit for you.

Rapport People communicate in different ways. The client should feel understood, heard and safe in the coaching environment. If that’s not happening, no hard feelings! Keep looking until you find the right person.

Expertise Coaches are trained to ask questions and create impactful change in just about any area of life. However, many coaches work in specialized fields such as executive coaching, workplace coaching, career coaching, health and wellness coaching etc. Find a coach that matches your needs.

Availability There are some practical considerations when working with a coach. You’ll want to find someone who’s available to meet when you’re available. Do you want to meet once a week, twice a week, or once-in-a while? This should be discussed.

Results Sometimes it’s enough to have a compassionate listener so you can hear yourself think out loud. A good coach is there to help you reach your own conclusions, not make decisions for you. A coach will help you set obtainable and realistic goals and stay accountable to those goals. A coach knows when to support you and when to push you beyond your comfort zone.

What are the benefits of working with a life coach?

When it comes to life coaching, many of the benefits of coaching are measurable and come from social science research. Some of the documented benefits to keep in mind:

BETTER SELF-CONFIDENCE
A study by the IFC reported that 80% of people who hired a life coach reported improved self-confidence.

A GROWTH MINDSET
A benefit of coaching is a shift in perspective. With coaching you can expand and nurture your ability to see new options and possibilities.

IMPROVED SELF-AWARENESS
With coaching, you have a partner to reflect on your progress towards real self-awareness. Often in life, a lot of time is spent being who other people want us to be. Coaching helps you listen to your own voice.

IMPROVED RELATIONSHIPS AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS
With building on self-awareness comes the ability to speak your truth. Honesty is a key to communication.
